Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years experience in underground mining as a health and safety coordinator.
  • A degree/diploma or equivalent work experience in health and safety
  • Working knowledge of safety and health regulations in mining.
  • OFA 3 equivalent or higher level of first aid and valid mine rescue certificate.
  • Knowledge and experience in Industrial hygiene testing and reporting.
  • Knowledge and experience of drug and alcohol testing and protocols.
  • Knowledge in ergonomics and programs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. along with advanced computer skills in Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Tap-root investigation software
  • Valid driver licence, minimum class 5.
  • Remote camp (northern climate) experience preferable.
Duties:
  • Promote a positive safety culture that includes active participation by employees and contractors.
  • Participate in daily safety interactions, including performing safety inspection and auditing to ensure adherence to standards.
  • Conduct required Industrial hygiene functions and testing.
  • Inform and educate employees concerning health and safety standards.
  • Facilitate required safety training for the mine site including safety meetings.
  • Conduct drug and alcohol testing as required.
  • Facilitate and participate in incident investigation and risk assessments as required.
  • Involved as an emergency response team member and leading required training and mine rescue practices.
  • Assist line management with understanding and interpretation of Yukon Zinc policies & procedures, Yukon Territories health & safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Be an active member of first aid response and hold required certification.
