PROGRAM:

Employment Training and Enhancement Program

FUNDERS:

Funded by the Yukon Territorial Government and administered by the Watson Lake Training Society

Program Objectives:

The program is intended to enhance the training opportunities for the residents of the Liard Basin Area. The training sponsored must be relevant to job opportunities in the area and should primarily be used for retraining, upgrading, and skills development for the local residents.

Level of Assistance Provided:

The program will normally not fund 100% of the training project costs. The intent is to supplement existing funding to ensure the widest application of available funds.

Eligible costs will be:

Instructors wage (certified to teach)
Rental of facilities (excluding Yukon College)
Travel and accommodations costs associated with the training
Training courses for immediate employment (First Aid, Food Safe, Oil & Gas tickets, etc)
Material Costs required for the project (plus rental of equipment)
In some cases training allowances to the trainees
Disability related support (tutors, attendant care, note takes, sign language interpreters)
Administration costs
Certain other costs deemed appropriate by the Society
Eligible Individuals will be local residents – as evident by Yukon Identification

Non Eligible:

Conferences and annual workshops
Courses post secondary, diploma, or degrees
Casual or recreational
Professional Development
Student union fees or dues
Contingency funds
Providing training for profit
Cost already supported through federal, territorial, municipal or first nations programs
Where trainees are currently employed the Watson Lake Training Society will not provide training allowances

Application:

To apply, the form must be completed and submitted to Watson Lake Training Society
PO Box 502, Watson Lake, Yukon, Y0A 1C0
or submitted to Watson Lake Community Outreach or Yukon College
Must have submitted an application for approval prior to taking any courses. No retroactive payment after the fact.

Requirements of Application:

The application should be attached to a detailed training plan, which addresses the following:
Type of training and expected job opportunities upon completion
Expected number of trainees/target group
Recommended trainers and their relevant experience
Detail cost of project indicating the amount(s) provided form other programs
Ability of trainers to comply with local bylaws regarding Business License and ability to provide adequate protection during the training project
